The Moros y Cristianos of Villajoyosa is one of the most dramatic iterations of this traditional Valencian festival, declared of International Tourist Interest. Held in late July around the feast of Santa Marta, the festival commemorates the medieval battles between Moors and Christians.

What sets Villajoyosa apart is the spectacular Desembarco — a full-scale beach landing where Moorish 'troops' arrive by boat and storm the shore, with cannons firing, smoke effects and hundreds of costumed participants. The battle unfolds across the town's picturesque coloured houses along the waterfront.

The five-day celebration includes elaborate parades with ornate costumes, embassy negotiations between the two sides, and the final Christian reconquest. The atmosphere combines historical drama with community celebration.
