Fiesta de la Sidra Natural

Gijón, Asturias

Gijón celebrates Asturias' most iconic drink with mass cider pouring (escanciado) attempts at world records, tastings from dozens of producers, and traditional Asturian music and food.

Highlights

  • World record attempt for simultaneous cider pouring
  • Tastings from dozens of Asturian cider producers
  • Traditional Asturian gastronomy: fabada, cachopo, Cabrales cheese
  • Live folk music and traditional dance
  • Cider pouring competitions and workshops

The Fiesta de la Sidra Natural is Gijón's tribute to Asturias' most beloved drink — natural cider. Held annually in late August, the festival transforms the Paseo de Begoña and surrounding streets into a massive celebration of Asturian cider culture.

The highlight is the attempt to break the world record for simultaneous cider pouring ('escanciado'), with thousands of participants pouring cider from height in the traditional Asturian way. Dozens of cider producers set up stalls offering tastings, while food vendors serve classic Asturian dishes like fabada, cachopo and local cheeses.

Live music, folk dancing and competitions round out the programme in one of northern Spain's most enjoyable food festivals.
