Cruces de Mayo Córdoba 2026: Your Complete Guide
Giant flower crosses, street parties, and the start of Córdoba's month-long spring celebration
What are the Cruces de Mayo?
The Cruces de Mayo (May Crosses) is one of Córdoba's most colorful spring festivals. Neighborhoods, associations, and bars compete to build the most beautiful giant cross decorated entirely with flowers. Each cross becomes the centerpiece of a street party with live music, food stalls, and dancing. The festival marks the beginning of Córdoba's legendary spring season, which continues with the Patios Festival and the Feria de Córdoba.
Dates: First weekend of May 2026
Cruces de Mayo typically takes place during the first weekend of May (around May 1–3, 2026). Some crosses start appearing on Thursday evening, and the celebrations peak on Friday and Saturday nights. The official competition judging happens on Saturday.

What to See
The Crosses
Each cross is a 3-meter tall structure covered entirely in red carnations, with elaborate decorations around the base — flowers, traditional pottery, shawls, and Andalusian ornaments. The best crosses are true works of art, taking weeks to prepare. Around 40-50 crosses participate in the annual competition across Córdoba's neighborhoods.
Best Areas to Visit
The most spectacular crosses are traditionally found in San Basilio, San Agustín, Plaza de las Tendillas, and around the Judería. The city publishes an official map of all participating crosses — pick it up at the tourist office or download it from the municipal website.
Night Atmosphere
The real magic happens after dark. Each cross is lit up and surrounded by a velada (party) — bars serve rebujito and local wine, speakers blast sevillanas and flamenco, and people dance in the streets until the early hours. It is one of the best nightlife experiences in all of Andalusia.
Combining with the Patios Festival
The Cruces de Mayo usually take place just before the Festival de los Patios (typically May 4–17). If you time your visit right, you can experience both — the crosses on the first weekend and the patios during the following two weeks. Check our Córdoba Patios Festival guide for full details.
